10 Hidden Video Game Items That Change EVERYTHING

5. The Shiny Stone - Super Mario RPG

Super Mario RPG has many hilarious references to other gaming properties. While visiting an inn, the hero of The Legend of Zelda, Link, can be spotted napping in the corner. In the Mushroom Castle, you can find Samus Aran from Metroid "resting up for Mother Brain".

However, the coolest Easter egg is also the most well-hidden. After obtaining Fireworks in Moleville, you need to trade them to a girl in the village to obtain a Shiny Stone. If you use this Stone on a sealed door in Monstro Town, you'll encounter an entity called Culex, who will challenge you to a battle.

But be warned. This interdimensional creature is harder than anything else in the game, so don't attempt to fight him unless your stats are maxed and you're equipped with the best items.

Even though Culex never appeared in Final Fantasy, there's no question he serves as a nod to the franchise. His theme song is the boss music from Final Fantasy IV and the fight concludes with the victory jingle from Final Fantasy. (Super Mario RPG was also co-created by FF's development team, SquareEnix.)

By defeating Culex, you will obtain a Quartz Charm which boost your stats dramatically. However, it's the epic battle with Culex that is the real reward.
