10 Hopeless Video Game Protagonists

3. Tutankhamen (Sphinx And The Cursed Mummy)

Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy is a game that could generously be described as a cult classic. Releasing in 2003 on the Playstation 2, Xbox and Gamecube, it was a competent 3D platformer that was pulled out from the jaws of obscurity by its unique setting, interesting characters and genuinely original dual gameplay.

Players took control of the two titular protagonists as they battled to save Egypt from Set, the God of Chaos. While Sphinx's gameplay was commonplace for the time, revolving around basic environmental platforming and sword combat, it was as the Mummy that the experience became more interesting.

While the former explored the outside world, the latter was confined to the inside of the Castle of Uruk, a towering structure filled with deadly traps.

Being undead, Tutankhamen was able to use his almost lifeless body to solve all manner of intricate puzzles, from setting himself on fire to light torches to getting crushed in order to become wafer-thin and slip through bars.

Literally throwing himself at any puzzle presented to him, pratfalls, slapstick injuries and comical screams abound as the Mummy did his part as the brains to Sphinx's brawn. The very battered, very sorry-for-himself brains.
