10 Hotly Anticipated RPGs That'll Blow You Away In 2016

2. The Technomancer - PS4, Xbox One, PC

The title may be one that will send all but the most ardent cyberpunk fans into sniggers, but this Mars-based RPG is one of the most intriguing games coming out next year. Set 200 years after humans have settled down on Mars, the planet is in turmoil (no surprises there). People are going to war over water, big companies are exploiting the colonists, and the sun is causing people to mutate. You control a technomancer (think sci-fi wizard), who like all people of his kind faces discrimination from the general populace. The game is mostly open-world, with several huge hubs for the player to explore, sort of like a bleak, sci-fi Witcher 3. Speaking of which, most of the combat is melee-based, with a few magic attacks thrown in for good measure. There's something intriguingly medieval about the Technomancer's world, as you rely on weapons like maces, staffs and swords rather than guns to survive. As you explore the red planet, you'll venture to various cities - protected against radiation by giant metallic shields - each with their own distinct cultures. In these places, you'll be able to pick up quests from NPCs as per RPG tradition, though I was a bit shocked to hear that there'll be no horse/quad-bike/mutant camel to travel around the world. I imagine Mars isn't exactly an idyllic place for hiking and admiring the scenery, but I'm hoping to be proven wrong.
