10 Hotly-Anticipated Video Games You Probably Won't Get To Play This Generation

Although they managed to ship two GTA games in the Xbox 360 era, the second of Rockstar's mammoth sequels hit right at the tail-end of the cycle, acting almost as a swan-song for the entire generation.

But taking into account how much longer that cycle was – and how contracted the current one seems to be – there’s a real possibility that the next big franchise release might not hit until the release of brand new hardware.

And although the prospect of GTA skipping an entire console generation seems ridiculous, it becomes even more likely when taking into account the developer’s previous release history.

With five years between GTA IV and V, the wait between V and VI could be even longer thanks to the newest game’s online offering. The reason the latest sequel was such a smash-hit was because we hadn’t heard anything from the franchise in years once IV and its DLC hit stores, and GTA Online has kept the current game in the public consciousness for much longer than its predecessor.

So taking into consideration the fact that the franchise needs to go away for a little bit to create demand – and that a new Red Dead Redemption is probably just around the corner – there's a good chance that a true GTA sequel could skip this generation entirely.
