There’s no shortage of activities for players to do in Shenmue II whenever they weren't searching for whoever killed protagonist Ryo’s father. In addition to arm wrestling, street fighting, and darts, the streets of Hong Kong have one incredibly well-hidden game mode that most players will have completely missed.

That mode is underground duck racing, and it’s as fantastically bizarre as it sounds.

To unlock this mode, players will have to meet some specific criteria that begins with purposely failing a QTE event so that Ryo bumps into a girl carrying a tray. Speak to her later, win some fights, and finally talk to Izumi at the Tomato Mart, who’ll then tell Ryo about the duck racing.

Although this mode only allows players to bet on which bow-tie-wearing duck they want to win at first, catching the white feather while playing the leaf-catching minigame will allow players to unlock their very own duck that they can compete in races with.

Not only does the duck communicate through some hilarious subtitles, but the whimsically upbeat song used during the race will have players laughing with glee as they race their duck to victory.

It’s additions like this that have made the Shenmue series an all-time cult favourite.
