Now, when people think of gaming’s most trusty steeds, a lot of people will think of Epona from the Legend of Zelda series. And sure, while she is pretty awesome, for my money she doesn’t have a patch on the best horse in the business – Agro.

Wander’s giant-killing quest in Shadow of the Colossus takes him across vast plains, giant mountains, and endless stretches of nothingness - and Agro never once slows down, complains or tires out during these arduous treks across the wilderness. Not only that but when you do come across the titular Colossi and engage them in battle, a lot of the time you end up relying on his speed and climbing ability to avoid their attacks and get in close to the weak points.

If you still aren’t convinced of Agro’s awesomeness, then just remember that he also sacrifices himself near the end of the game just to keep you alive and moving forward towards your goal. As your only friend in the entire game, Agro’s fall into the chasm as you cross a collapsing bridge caused many a tear to be shed from the collective player.

Did Epona ever do that for Link? Didn’t think so.
