10 Iconic Moments That Defined Mass Effect As A Series

1. The Suicide Mission

As mentioned previously, Mass Effect 2 starts off with the destruction of the Normandy - and if Shepard isn't a good leader it could very well end the same way. Everything in the game game is focussed around preparing the Normandy for the jump through the perilous Omega-4 relay to stop the Collectors. The odds of success aren't good, as many ships have gone through in the past and none have returned. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xFqt2KMDebc#t=195 It's up to the player to decide what parts of the Normandy to upgrade before commencing the jump. The fate of everyone rests in their hands, as it is entirely possible to completely make a mess of things by going through too early - resulting in the death of Shepard and everyone else aboard the ship. Worse still, if loyalty missions for crew members aren't completed then it's highly likely that they won't make it out of the game's final mission alive. It's even possible for Shepard to die at the end. The suicide mission is a culmination of every single choice the player has made throughout Mass Effect 2, whether it was purchasing upgrades or neglecting characters they didn't particularly like. It has the tropes of any game finale: epic set-pieces, boss fights and space battles - but it's witnessing the consequences of your actions that give it the depth and substance that few games can match. What are some of your favourite moments in the Mass Effect series? Are you looking forward to ME4? Sound off in the comments!

When I'm not playing games, I'm probably either writing about them somewhere or singing stupid songs inspired by them. Or eating pizza.
