10 Iconic Video Game Heroes Nobody Admits Are Absolute Dicks

9. Duke Nukem - Duke Nukem Forever

During his reign at the top of the video game pecking order, Duke managed to crack a few decent jokes here and there - especially in the character's early outings - but as time has gone on it's become more and more obvious that he isn't much of a funny guy at all: He's just a dick.

We know the entire point of Duke Nukem is that he's a purposefully abrasive and unlikable hero, but for some reason he's gone down in gaming history as one of the medium's most lovable buffoons.

But the character was never charming or lovable - in fact, the entire point of his existence was to abuse 'charm' and filter it into crude, grossout gags - and so his position as one of the most beloved poster children of the industry doesn't really mesh with his actual in-game characterisation.

With that said, it was probably Duke Nukem Forever that was the final nail in the coffin for our once-'edgy' hero. Gone were the half-witty parodies of contemporary pop culture and in its place was an even bigger archetype who somehow thought he was much cooler than all of the lame action heroes he half-heartedly stole his personality from in the first place.
