10 Iconic Video Game Villains RUINED By Developers
1. Vaas - Far Cry
To borrow a DJ Khalid phrase, the case of Vaas Montenegro being 'ruined by developers' might just be a case of 'suffering from success'.
Michael Mando's legendary antagonist from Far Cry 3 has gone down as one of the most iconic video game villains of all time. Enigmatic and unhinged, his cutscenes remain some of the most celebrated moments in the Far Cry series, and his contrasts to protagonist Jason Brody gave the story a sense of depth as players dove deeper into the Rook Islands.
What's more, Ubisoft went all out in promoting the game with Vaas as the centre of attention. Michael Mando also appeared in various spoof bits of material advertising the Far Cry Experience, leaving few doubting this was going to be one of the best-represented villains in gaming history.
It would be great to go back to the game's release in 2012 and relive the collective gasp when this legendary antagonist was killed off barely by the halfway point. On a first playthrough, most probably don't even realise they've killed off their main foe for good when a strange dream-like sequence ends with Jason ramming a knife in his gut.
To this day, it's safe to say every Far Cry fan looks up at their posters of Vaas with a thought of 'what were you thinking, Ubisoft?'
