10 Iconic Video Games You Didn't Realise Also Have TV Shows
5. Rayman
Ubisoft have a strange relationship with other media. Although film versions of Assassins Creed, Watch_Dogs, Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon are in the works, it's worth having a look at some of their previous crossover projects. Of course we could just look at Uwe Boll's 2008 version of Far Cry and have a good laugh for a while, but another of their beloved franchises received a cross-media makeover in the 90s.
Rayman, everybody's favourite hero with detachable limbs, made the jump to TV in 1999 but the process wasn't without its issues. A total of 13 episodes were planned, all to be produced by Ubisoft using a similar engine to the one they used for FMV cutscenes, but by the time the fourth was completed, the show had already been cancelled due to substandard writing and a lack of funding (despite being provided by the Government of Quebec).
The show itself focussed on a circus act called Lac Mac and the poor treatment which he and his friends were receiving. Rayman arrives as one of the most whiny, infuriating characters in the whole thing but still saves everyone, leading them on a dramatic escape. At least that's what I got from the five minutes I were able to handle before turning it off, it's no wonder this show had less legs than Rayman himself.
