10 Iconic Video Games You Didn't Realise Also Have TV Shows

6. Earthworm Jim

Sing it with me! Earthworm Jim, we think he's mighty fine! Earthworm Jim, a hero for our time!

Yes, this famous cartoon is another which subverts the title slightly, you probably remember the catchy theme song and irreverent humour of this earthworm-turned-superhero, but Jim is the product of a long forgotten soldier of the console wars; the Sega Genesis.

In 1994, Shiny Entertainment (who also made Enter The Matrix and the criminally underrated Wild 9), released Earthworm Jim a 2D side-scrolling adventure game about an ordinary earthworm who gains superpowers after a mysterious suit falls from the sky and acts as his body (with his wormy self being the head). The TV show follows much the same format and its use of similar humour has seen it pass into history as one of the most fondly remembered Saturday Morning Cartoons of its generation.

After all, who could forget Peter Puppy, Psycrow and Princess Whats-Her-Name? Also, if you think you recognise Earthworm Jim's voice, you do: he was played by Dan Castellaneta, the voice actor most famous for Homer Simpson.
