10 Images That Encapsulate Gaming's Biggest Problems

4. Pre-Order Content And Overhype

There are many phrases and song lyrics that pertain to the idea of making sure you focus on the destination, not the journey. Well, it seems these days gamers like the journey towards a title more than the final product, and it's something that publishers put the most stock in. Comprised of hyping a title into a barely comprehensible mess of potentially orgasmic gameplay systems and revelatory plot devices, the proposed idea for any big-budget game now always exceeds that of the final product. We've mentioned Watch Dogs already in reference to a different point, but it stands that when we put our collective eggs in one basket, it breaks. The amount of significant delays this year actually outnumbers those that are still arriving. Count 'em: Batman: Arkham Knight, Battlefield: Hardline, The Order 1886, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Evolve, Tom Clancy's The Division, Driveclub and Dying Light. This wouldn't be such a bad thing in any other year, but when people are chomping at the bit to find something to really get their teeth into, the above list reads like a who's who of every title that would do exactly that. In addition it€™s not like producers and fans alike won€™t jump all over the fact that we€™ve had the carrots dangled in front of our faces, only for them to disappear off into the distance. The whole thing could easily be one giant marketing ploy in the first place, but we refuse to believe it's the consumer-damning apocalypse just yet.
