10 Incredible Indie Games You Must Consider

7. Passage (2007)

Passage is a 2D side-scrolling game in which you move slowly from the left side of the screen to the right, collecting items as you progress.

This is about as mechanically basic as they come, but that doesn’t mean your actions don’t hold weight. As you progress to the right you can no longer move back to the left, and your character steadily grows older, so the intention here is to convey the onward march of time.

Eventually you have the option to join up with a partner to keep you company on your journey to the right. But if you choose to do so, you are blocked off from some paths and collectibles.

To put it simply, Passage is a game steeped in symbolism, and it is one of the critical titles in the burgeoning art game sub-genre.
