5. Lies Of P

Even though Soulslikes are more popular than ever, few can match FromSoftware's genre-defining titles. For this reason, the bar was low for Lies of P.

Firstly, reimagining Pinocchio as a dark Belle-Epoque role-player is... weird. Also, the project was developed by an unknown development team from South Korea, so Lies of P was shaping up to be another lower-tier Dark Souls imitation.

Instead, it turned out to be one of the most polished and compelling Souls experiences outside of FromSoftware's own work. The gameplay boasts responsive controls, especially for parrying and dodging. The weapon assembly system is incredibly satisfying, since it lets players mix and match blades and hilts to create custom weapons, adding depth and creativity to builds.

While it draws inspiration from Bloodborne and Sekiro, Lies of P never feels like a carbon copy. It stands on its own merits, due to its imaginative mechanics, including the Legion Arms and the Lie System, which cleverly ties the story to the source material.

Though Lies of P initially attracted attention due to its bonkers premise, it's now seen as an utter triumph for the creators.
