Metal Gear Solid is a classic game, of that there is no doubt. However - much like many PS1 games - it started to show its age very quickly and already looked extremely dated by the time the next generation of consoles rolled around. Then Metal Gear Solid 2 showed up and blew it out of the water in terms of graphics and depth of gameplay.

So the decision was made to bring Metal Gear Solid up-to-date, giving gamers a combination of the superior gameplay of MGS2 and the superb story of the first title. Better yet, the game was to be on the Gamecube - rather than any of Sony's consoles - so it would be exposed to a new audience.

Development duties were handed over to Silicon Knights and they did a stellar job of porting the game into the new engine. Of course, Nintendo couldn't help but put their own little stamp on the game either.

Following the battle with Gray Fox you can explore the office a little bit more to find a little statuette of Mario and Yoshi. Shoot the statue and Snake's health is replenished and the 1-UP sound Mario lovers are familiar with will be played.
