While many credit GTA 3 with bringing the idea of a fully open 3D world to gamers and revolutionising the industry - and rightly so - back in the original PlayStation era the games were very different to the ones we know and love today.

They still had the criminal themes and many of the general gameplay ideas, but the original GTA titles were top-down affairs that offered only the barest of hints at what the series would become.

In fact, it was the Driver series that provided a few more cues for what would eventually become GTA 3. By no means an open-world game, the series was still similar enough to Rockstar's behemoth that the companies were happy to take shots at one another as their rivalry developed.

This culminated in the 'Two-Faced Tanner' mission in GTA 3, Tanner being the name of Driver's protagonist. Claude was tasked with assassinating a man who is apparently useless on his feet, which meant he would stay in his car as far as possible.

Many gamers simply blew his car up, but those who did missed out on seeing GTA's version of Tanner in action, dodgy running animation and all.
