With a beloved cult classic like the original Shenmue, you'd think that its dedicated fan base would have discovered everything the game had to offer. But you'd be mistaken.

A full 20 years after the game originally launched on the Dreamcast in 1999, one modder by the name of Nullpo was able to unearth a fascinating secret that would have otherwise been impossible to find without the help of some sneaky manipulation.

The secret in question comes in the form of a hidden cutscene where protagonist Ryo would perform Ryu's special Shin Shoryuken move from the Street Fighter series during a (you guessed it) quick time event while fending off some thugs.

The story goes that the development team at AM2 wanted to add the Easter Egg into the game, which could be seen by performing a tricky input. However, Shenmue producer Yu Suzuki stopped it from appearing in the final release by locking it behind an impossible button combination that couldn't be done in the three-frame time window required.

If it weren't for a former game developer tipping Nullpo off on a Discord server in 2018, this delightful Easter Egg would have likely remained undiscovered.
