10 Incredible Video Game Stories That Got Everybody Talking
9. Silent Hill 2
When it comes to horror games, it doesn't get much better than Silent Hill 2. Not only does the title feature a wide array of memorable monsters, but it also boasts one of the most mature and sophisticated narratives of the series and thats a massive achievement considering just how terrible the games voice acting is. Dealing with such heavy topics as infidelity, terminal illness and euthanasia, Silent Hill 2s story managed to blend supernatural horrors with the uglier side of everyday life. Unlike other great horror games where the scares come purely from the enemies and the situation (looking at you here, Resident Evil), Silent Hill chose to weave a story that was mature, hard-hitting, and one that would still be deeply unsettling and atmospheric even if you removed all the monsters and ghouls. When you have an experience that would still be incredibly scary without any of the things otherwise associated with a given genre, that's when you know you have a fantastic game on your hands.
