10 Incredible Video Games You Can't Buy Anymore
7. Paragon - PlayStation 4/Windows Store
I'm a real sucker for an ensemble cast. Hero shooters. MOBAs. Overwatch, League of Legends, Bleeding Edge, Paladins, Team Fortress 2, Valorant... the list goes on and on. If the game presents a rich cast of interesting characters with unique abilities that require teamwork and coalescence of skillsets in order to prevail, then point me in the direction of the big tanky shield guy and let's get crackin'.
Paragon, then, would be just my cup of tea, and arrive just in time for the Overwatch-centred surge in popularity for the hero shooter - in 2016, it went into early access for PS4 players, and featured more MOBA-typical features such as AI-controlled minions and more defined arena "lanes", mixed with third-person action gaming staples. In theory, it should have been an easy sell.
However, as this was around the time Fortnite would change its gameplay model completely (remember, Fortnite was originally a base-building PVE game) and the new Fortnite: Battle Royale was exploding in popularity, Epic decided to remove resourced for Paragon and instead funnel them into the nascent pickaxe-heavy industry-rocker instead.
Perhaps more than any other title on this list, Paragon was axed not due to how poorly it itself was doing, but because its publisher had a product doing infinitely better.
Considering Fortnite has exceeded twenty seasons, it's arguable Epic made the right financial choice... but Fortnite doesn't have a big tanky shield guy, so they get a loud jeering boo from me.
