10 Incredibly Cheap Video Game Moves (That You Totally Used All The Time)

8. Kirby's Stone (Super Smash Bros.)

Kirby, like he does in all his games, absolutely sucks in Smash Bros. Especially if he's your opponent.

There's a special place in series creator Masahiro Sakurai's heart for the little ball of pinkness, being the first character he designed after joining HAL Laboratory as a fresh-faced youngster back in 1989 (to be fair, he's no less fresh-faced now). It's no coincidence that Smash Bros. controls like a Kirby game, then, nor that HAL's mascot is a ludicrously attractive option for newcomers.

In addition to having approximately a thousand recovery jumps which make him (it?) impossible to smash, a lethal flurry of fist jabs simply from mashing the A button, and the adorable yet irritating ability to imitate every other character, Kirby also has one of the game's most devastating special moves. The basic pattern is simple: float up higher than any other fighter can reach, and then drop down on them in a cowardly rain of rock. It's almost unavoidable to the inattentive player, and utterly devastating. A nightmare from Dreamland.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
