10 Industry-Defining Video Games That Are Nowhere To Be Seen
6. Age Of Empires
Ask an avid gamer what are some of the great real-time strategy games ever made, the answers usually include Warcraft, Civilization, and most importantly, Age of Empires. Initially touted as Warcraft meets Civilization, Age of Empires turned out to be an exhilarating and beautiful mess that combined obsessive item collecting and age advancement with non-stop combat from enemy medieval knights, wild animals, or rocket launcher cars. With brand new expansion packs announced for World of Warcraft and Civilization: Beyond Earth, the Warcraft and Civilization series' are guaranteed to remain in the video game limelight for quite some time. As for Age of Empires, well, the series has sadly fallen behind its rivals. After Age of Empires III was released in 2005, the series soon descended into a series of sub-par spin-offs, a now-defunct MMO, a few mediocre HD re-releases, and a growing number of mobile games. It's quite sad to see such a great franchise that pushed real-time strategic video game graphics, technology, and AI boundaries to be reduced to a host of small-scale mobile games. You can keep your WOW expansion-packs, just give us back the Age of Empires franchise.
My life story is nothing special. I haven't cured ebola, I'm nowhere near stopping terrorism, and I'm still working on that climate change problem.
Instead, all I've done so far is put a few hundred words together in an attempt to make people laugh.
