10 Infuriating Levels That Almost Derailed Great Games

7. Star Wars Episode 1 Racer (N64, PC, DC, GBC) €“ Final Race Vs. Sebulba

http://youtu.be/VdbutSmxHdA In a way, I€™m half convinced that the only reason Pod Racing featured at all in Star Wars: Episode 1 was as an elaborate way to pre-market the release of SW: Episode 1 Racer; that€™s exactly the kind of €œfilm maker€ George Lucas has turned into these days. However, ignore my uncontrollable cynicism, the game itself is actually pretty great for what it is, for a movie tie-in. On the whole the game was pretty challenging, but never to such a degree that having your console on your house insurance was a necessity. That was until the final stage, until your final showdown with Sebulba. This nasty little alien has all sorts of tricks up his sleeve to slow you down and make you crash and while that€™s to be expected from a final boss, true, you€™ve got to question whether or not a children€™s game should be this hear-tearingly difficult to beat. I was close to snapping the cartridge in half on this one; eventually I managed to win the day, but that was weeks after attempt #1 and by then it was no longer fun, it was like pushing a giant rock up a hill.
