10 Infuriating Levels That Almost Derailed Great Video Games

10. The Jet Skis - Uncharted

Even though Uncharted was a breakout title for Naughty Dog, and their first real foray into story-driven, real-world narratives, it was very much a practice run for something greater. It's still a fantastic game, but playing it now makes it clear that the devs hadn't quite nailed down everything that makes Uncharted, well, Uncharted, throwing everything at the wall and seeing what sticks.

That's probably how players ended up with the jet ski segments, which were a noble attempt to add some variety in between the combat and the climbing. The problem was, these sections felt a little half-baked, and surprisingly arcadey, as you had to keep the currents in mind, avoid rocks and obstacles, and be keenly aware of the thugs bombarding you with rocket fire.

And, if there's one thing that clues you into the fact that the developers also worked on Crash Bandicoot, it's the jet skis. They practically function identical - despite being generations apart, they feel more or less the same in each game.

That might have been fine for Crash on the PS1, but it absolutely did not work in Uncharted on the PS3.
