10 Ingenious Ways Players Beat Video Game Microtransactions
7. Cheating To Unlock Premium Cosmetics For Free - Assassin's Creed Valhalla
Within mere weeks of Assassin's Creed Valhalla's release, PC players found a way to acquire premium cosmetic items which would typically require a brutal grind or spending a ton of real money on Helix credits.
By using the ever-trusty Cheat Engine tool, players could access an Inventory Editor that let them simply unlock the premium packs - such as Berserker, Valkyrie, Draugr and Huldufolk - without spending egregious amounts of time or money.
Hilariously, the cheat even allowed players to obtain items which hadn't yet been officially released by Ubisoft.
The tool still works to this very day, more than 18 months after Valhalla's release, with Ubisoft perhaps realising the futility of their prior attempts to "sanction" PC players for circumventing microtransactions on Assassin's Creed Odyssey.
After all, this cheat can't be used on console versions of the game, so it's possibly more trouble than it's worth for Ubisoft to try and shut it down.
