5. Pong Wasn't The First Video Game

I might be stepping on some toes with this one when you consider that even today we feverishly debate what ingredients actually define a video game. Contrary to popular belief though, it most certainly isn€™t the beloved Pong.

Tracing electronic interaction back to its very roots reveals a Cathode Ray Tube Amusement Device as the earliest rendition of a video game. Developed in 1947, it€™s obviously overly simplistic and involves the player turning a knob to direct lasers at incoming planes, and probably would put most of us to sleep today, but history is awesome nonetheless.

Also released in 1947 was an electronically interactive version of Chess, so technically there are two viable contenders for the prestigious honor.
