10 Insane Reasons That Video Games Were Missing Features
6. 30fps On Xbox Was A "Creative Choice" - Starfield
There was a huge wave of disappointment when Bethesda confirmed that the Xbox versions of Starfield would be locked to 30fps, and even more so when Xbox boss Phil Spencer referred to this decision as a "creative choice."
What possible creative choice could there be to willfully limit a game's framerate, especially when PC offers a totally free-flowing alternative? What could the creative choice even be here?
In reality, this was more clumsy wording on Spencer's part than anything - he probably should've called it a "technical decision," because the phrasing "creative choice" implies that there was a specific reason for it outside of Xbox hardware limitations.
Failing to hit 60fps even on the beefy Xbox Series X is one thing, but to shift the conversation away from "the systems aren't powerful enough to accommodate it" towards "this was a creative decision" is bizarre, awkward messaging.
Naturally it didn't go down well with fans at all, who saw straight through it.
