2. Watch Dogs - Random Boxes Were Sent Out And Caused A Bomb Scares
Watch Dogs was supposed to be the next great open-world game; with a fresh and exciting hacking premise, the gameplay looked amazing, and the scope for missions and things to do seemed endless. Unfortunately, the end product was a bit 'meh' and the advertising teams rushed into overdrive in an attempt to salvage the game's reception.
Ubisoft took this to mean bribing reviewers with Nexus tablets in an attempt to garner better reviews. That didn't go down well, but it was still somehow much better than their subsequent attempts at eye-catching PR stunts.
Proving that they haven't learned anything from their Splinter Cell debacle, Ubisoft sent a mysterious black safe to the offices of Ninemsn in the middle of Sydney, Australia. Everyone was initially cautious, which is fair enough whenever a strange black safe is delivered without any notice.
But everything immediately jumped up to 11 when the safe started ticking.
All employees were sent home, the bomb squad was immediately called in, and the safe was carefully moved to the basement for diffusing. After a few tense hours, the safe was cracked open to reveal ... a copy of Watch Dogs, a beanie, and a baseball cap...
