10 Insane Wrestling Game Spin-Offs
9. WWE Wrestlefest (iOS)
Please note straight away the WWE part to this choice. This is not the highlight of many 80s kids that is the original WWF Arcade machine. No this was the game that featured on tablets a few years ago when THQ was on it's last legs as a company.
WWF Wrestlefest came out in 1991 in the local arcades around the world. While at the time it would've been considered an actual wrestling game, nowadays this arcade style nature will be considered more of a spin-off. If that didn't raise your eyebrow, WWF Wrestlefest had one of the best Royal Rumble modes for years, and while it wasn't totally the same as the actual rules (you could win via pin or submission as well), it was funny to see 2 or even 3 people trying to pin one person at the same time.
A joystick and two buttons were the only control scheme to use; one to perform punches, one to perform kicks. When you're close to an opponent you initiate a grapple and button bash as quick as possible to gain control and perform a wrestling move such as a suplex or scoop slam, or an irish whip. The arcade game allowed you to play in a tag team tournament, using characters such as Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage or even Demolition, with the end boss being the legendary Legion of Doom.

The hype when this returning game was announced was huge, so when it actually became playable, we were in for a shock. The original wasn't advanced of course in terms of graphics or gameplay, but at least the frame rate was good... The frame rate of animations in this tablet version were terrible. Case in point.. HBK's Superkick has 6 frames.. 4 of which is looping his foot back and forth.
Not to mention this inbred version added so much DLC you had to pay to unlock more characters that people gave up on this loser very early on. Thankfully now it's no longer available on iOS so future generations won't have to suffer.
