10 Insane Wrestling Game Spin-Offs

2. WWE All Stars 2 (Unreleased)

Another planned game that again was thwarted by THQ's impending death.

The Original WWE All Stars has a cult following, but for good reason. It didn't take itself too seriously, with every wrestler being filled with steroids to look more superhuman like (or in the case of Triple H, to make him realistic). Using the far superior engine that Midway developed for TNA Impact!; it had better physics than even the current 2K Series, and combos were well made and balanced. Players could spend hours making double team combinations online and making true finishers from mid air, years before WWE's main series had catching and catapult finishers.

Gameplay was more akin to Street Fighter and Virtua Fighter than an actual wrestling game. Wrestlers would be KO'd when they had no health left and were hit with a finishing manoeuvre. Multiple KO's could be achieved at the same time for certain superstars, and it wasn't uncommon for an Eddie Guerrero Frog Splash to KO 2 people, some times even 3 people in the same moment. The game sold fairly well and a sequel was on the way (until THQ went bust), but no real information was given on it until not too long ago.

One of the developers explained what the plans were for the sequel, suffice to say it involved some good old tables, more move combinations, double team opportunities, ladder matches, possible back stage scenarios and different weapon ideas. If you've never played the original, go grab a copy while you still can, you still see the occasional tournament on this game as a side event to other more established games. Maybe 2K should focus on this instead of WWE 2K18.
