10 Insanely Confusing Video Games Levels You Got Totally Lost In

4. The Great Maze - Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Smash Bros. is a fighting game, right? We can all agree on that. And while I always found 'adventure modes' in one-on-one fighters a bit contrived, I can appreciate why people enjoy working their way through the Subspace Emissary levels in Smash Bros. But whoever designed this mode must have run out of creative juice or had a breakdown upon making the final level, which is essentially a gauntlet run of all the bosses in the game.

What makes it worse is that to actually fight them, you need to seek out randomly placed doors that lead you through to each one. These doors are scattered all over the level, so really you need to use the in-game map - a damn map in a fighting game - to know where to go. It obviously goes for that whole 'Metroidvania' feel, but fails miserably.

As you defeat the bosses and less doors remain in the level, it turns into a scavenger hunt, as you go back and forth in increasing frustration, just hoping that you happen upon that elusive door to take you to the next fight.
