10 Insultingly Bad Side-Mission Rewards In Video Games

7. Endless Loop - Settlement Defence (Fallout 4)

There are many reasons to both love and hate Fallout 4. On one hand, the shooting has never been tighter, the companion approval system replacing the binary karma system has more pros than cons, and the more urban setting made for more interesting set pieces and environments compared to 3's empty deserted wastelands.

On the other hand, there's the settlement defense side mission.

This side mission is more than likely the primary reason that not many people like Preston Garvey despite him being the equivalent of a puppy dog made into a man. This side mission never definitively ends.

Oh sure, when you save a settlement, it will check the box next to the mission that says you did it and allot XP accordingly. But before you know it, it'll come back again.

There is a way to get out in front of this, however. If you get really into Fallout 4's settlement building system, you can build defences for each settlement. This will keep the baddies away from attacking at random, but your help will still be required from time to time.

Your reward for doing this mission... is to keep doing it. Forever.

Yay?
