10 Japanese Video Games That Will Never Be Released In The West
7. Ace Attorney Investigations 2
Released in 2011, Ace Attorney Investigations 2 is the
sequel to Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth, and is the sixth
instalment in the popular franchise. In 2011, Capcom announced the game would
not be released outside of Japan, suggesting that the cost of localising the
product would exceed potential sales. A fan-made patch has since been
distributed online, entitled Prosecutor's Path, but there’s been absolutely no
word on an official release.
In the game, players reprise the role of Miles Edgeworth, who must uncover a sinister conspiracy in order to continue his practice as a prosecutor. Like previous entries in the series, the game revolves around utilising evidence to gain the advantage in arguments, disproving falsehoods and solving conversational puzzles. The game also reintroduces the Little Thief, a device that allows Edgeworth to recreate and investigate crimescenes in order to reveal previously concealed details.
Until 2013, former vice-president of Capcom US, Christian Svensson had been trying to get the game localised outside of Japan. Since his release from the company, no attempts have been made to release the game worldwide. By all accounts, Capcom have little faith in the series, and while previous games are prospered outside of Japan, Ace Attorney Investigations 2 is considered too much of a risk.
