Developed by FromSoftware, the makers of Dark Souls and Bloodborne, Metal Wolf Chaos was released in Japan in 2004, exclusively on the original Xbox, a console which was notoriously unpopular in the land of the rising sun. As a result, the game was a commercial disaster, and was subsequently denied localisation outside of Japan.

In the game, players take on the role of the President of the United States of America, who is tasked with recapturing The White House from the Vice President, who has taken control following a coup. Armed with a mech, and a seemingly infinite array of military weaponry, players must destroy everything in their path, survive hordes of enemy units and shoot their way to victory. Interestingly enough, the game features a full English translation, and was apparently made with Western audiences in mind.

Despite this fact, the game was never released outside Japan, and that’s unlikely to change anytime soon. Since its release, the game has cultivated a considerable following, and has become somewhat of a cult classic, and even a collector’s item. Regardless, there’s been no talk of an international release. Devolver Digital did briefly consider publishing the game in the United States, but has since failed to secure the rights to the series.
