10 Jaw-Dropping Video Game Success Stories You Need To Hear

1. Minecraft

The biggest indie-turned-blockbuster franchise in history, Minecraft creator Markus 'Notch' Persson came up with a title that if you presented it on face-value, would most likely be laughed out the room thanks to some very off-putting graphics.

However, a solid concept is all you need, and when you can essentially use your game to be the digital version of Lego for the new generation, there's quite the amount of money to be made.

All the tales on this list are essentially rags-to-riches stories of being able to execute on that one killer idea, and Persson's rollout of Minecraft software to everywhere from home consoles to school classrooms is the quintessential version of this tale in the new age.

Just last year Notch's biggest achievement was putting down $70 million on a 15-bedroom Tony Stark-style Beverly Hills mansion thanks to a prior exclusivity acquisition deal from Microsoft. His asking price for Minecraft was two billion dollars, something he'd half-jokingly set back in 2012 on Twitter, but the American giant matched it, getting him an overall net worth of around $1.5 billion dollars to his name in 2015.

Remember, Minecraft only came out in 2009, making all of this pretty insane for a guy who only six years ago had a desk full of Lego and a cool idea.
