10 Legendary Video Game Myths That Fooled Us All

1. Revive Aeris In Final Fantasy VII

Final Fantasy VII had an overwhelmingly involving and emotionally-charged plot for its time. For many gamers growing up in the 90s, it was one of the first games in which they viewed characters as more than just vehicles by which to complete the game. This is no doubt part of the reason why everyone who completed FFVII became so attached to key character and co-protagonist Aeris. Aeris tragically dies late in the game, but fans were unwilling to accept her fate, and for years concocted futile theories about bhow to revive her. Naturally, most of these theories involved doing strange, seemingly unrelated activities in a particular order, which would eventually lead to the player obtaining a substance called Revive Materia. You then used this miracle potion on Aeris to revive her and get an alternate ending to the game. What's profound about the Revive Materia myth is that it was a result of players' unwillingness to accept the fate of one of the first video game characters they formed an emotional attachment to. It was a perfect indicator of how FF VII took games to a new level of storytelling, driving players to the point of trying to defy the game's design to make things turn out differently.
