10 Levels That Stopped Video Games Being Perfect

3. Isla Del Sol - Bayonetta

Bayonetta is one of the most beloved character action games of all time, widely lauded for its flamboyant style, fluid combat, and of course its inimitable protagonist.

But things take a turn for the bulls**t in one of the game's final chapters, "Isla Del Sol," which initially ditches the typical combat gameplay in favour of a rail shooter inspired by the classic 1985 arcade game Space Harrier.

The prospect of riding a missile while taking down the bad guys sounds fun in theory, but lasting for 10 entire minutes as it does without a single damn checkpoint to speak of, failure means going back to the very beginning and repeating the whole thing again.

Naturally this can be supremely irritating if you die more than a couple of times - which, given the degree of challenge on even lower difficulties, you're likely to - adding up to a terribly balanced level that just asks way too much of most players.

The boss fight against Jeanne in the second half of the level is an absolute blast, but getting there is a major chore.
