10 Masterpiece Video Games That Are Total Technical Powerhouses
5. Battlefield 1
Nobody does graphical knockouts like DICE, and whilst Star Wars Battlefront also offers some incredibly luxurious visuals, as a package it's nowhere near as complete as Battlefield 1. The latter at least included a full single-player campaign; one that comes complete with some stunning levels such as dogfighting above London or sneaking through a mist-caked jungle as you attempt to clear a path for a friendly tank.
Online though, DICE's former experience in creating what they call 'Levolution' (the act of an element within a map changing the landscape, such as the collapsing tower in Battlefield 4) paid dividends, as now in BF1, a defeated blimp will slowly fall to the floor, its skeletal iron remains terraforming the landscape in the process.
In addition, DICE have been one of the first major studios to adapt the technique of 'Photogrammetry', where hundreds of high quality images are taken of a given thing (say, a tank), before being applied to an in-game mesh. This results in photo-realistic graphics, and it's testament to EA and DICE overall, that they were able to use this technique to revisit such a tumultuous period in time with some modicum of style.
