8. Mega Man's Name
Mega Man wasn't always Mega Man. In fact, he wasn't always Rockman, either. Many names were thrown around during development and Mega Man was once known as "Battle Kid", "Mighty Kid", and "Knuckle Kid", among other names. Also, in a 1987 issue of Famitsu, the game was called "The Battle Rainbow Rockman". Most likely, the name was drawn from the fact that Mega Man changed colors depending on which weapon he had equipped. Rockman was ultimately decided for his name as a reference to rock and roll music as well as the rock-paper-scissors aspect of the game. When the game was being localized for America, Capcom changed his name from Rockman to Mega Man. Capcom's then-Senior Vice President Joseph Marici claimed that he changed it simply because he did not like the original name and thus, a legend was born.
