8. Bulb Boy

Gaming is no stranger to bizarre characters and concepts; for every talking dragon in one title, there is sentient appliance in another.

Then there's Bulb Boy.

Half point and click, and half side scrolling adventure, this relatively short game's titular character is literally a boy with a light bulb for a head.

Waking suddenly from a nightmare to discover that evil has taken over his house and his family are missing, Bulb Boy must employ his utilitarian, removable cranium to solve strange and disturbing puzzles, and light his way in the darkness.

When evil is near - which is practically all the time in this game - he can place his head in a cupboard or a bin to dull its light and throw grotesque predators off his trail.

One moment Bulb Boy will be reminiscing about summer afternoons spent in the meadow with his grandfather and his dog, the next he will be fighting for his life as he attempts to defeat a headless turkey/chicken monster.

In one truly disturbing sequence, Bulb Boy must use his head (very much intended) to solve puzzles before an excrement monster with the face of a human female can drag him down into the plumbing below, Pennywise-style.

Absolutely bonkers.
