8. The Gameplay Came From Brainstorming Sessions For Uncharted 2

While development for Uncharted 2 was still underway, Neil Druckmann and game director Bruce Straley would often brainstorm various gameplay and story scenarios, one of which they referred to as "The Mute Girl". The idea went like this: Drake was in a city beset by a civil war, and he had joined a group of rebel fighters. At night Drake would be awoken by his companion, a young girl who couldn't speak, and they would travel across buildings and rooftops together with communication taking place through actions and gameplay. Druckmann wanted to explore the concept of how these characters would develop an unbreakable bond with each other through shared experiences, rather than simply relying on dialogue alone to depict a relationship.
