10 Mind-Blowing Facts You Never Knew About The Last Of Us

5. It Was Initially Horrifically (And Unintentionally) Sexist

As you've no doubt noticed by now, The Last Of Us went through a lot of changes before eventually shaping into the masterpiece that we know and love today. One concept was nearly identical to the finished game except for one major difference: there were a LOT more dudes running around. Like, a lot. See, the central idea of a species-killing virus was kept... with the biggest difference being that it would only affect women. Think something along the lines of comic Y: The Last Man... except on opposite day. The game would have played out more or less the same way and Ellie would probably still have ended up on the operating table seeing as how she was still the only female immune to the disease. Druckmann scrapped the idea after a female employee pointed out that having people play a game where women turned into monsters and were then shot to pieces probably wasn't the best idea.
