10 Mind-Blowing Video Game Plot Twists Nobody Saw Coming

6. The World Of Star Ocean Is A Video Game

For fans of the series, this plot twist is likely to evoke a lot of emotion because some claim that it completely ruined the series. Despite this, this revelation still has its fans and it was certainly unexpected. Nobody could have foreseen that the developers would take the story in such a completely different direction. The story seems pretty standard at first. You play as Fayt Leingod who is off to save the Universe accompanied by his band of merry men and women and kids. The fearsome threat of the day comes in the form of Executioners, mysterious super powerful beings. As the story unfolds, it is revealed that the Executioners actually come from another universe, a far more advanced 4D universe which has the unfair advantage of a whole €˜nother dimension. Of course, as the gamer learns more, it turns out that the other universe really is the only one that counts€because our universe is just a computer simulation called the Eternal Sphere. Not only that but, in a very meta move, the program is actually used for recreation so it becomes very similar to an MMO (with billions of players and no lag€ yeah right). Also, those pesky Executioners turn out to be anti-viruses who are looking to get rid of anomalies within the Eternal Sphere. So you start off playing as the savior of the universe and end up as a computer anomaly or, as the bad guy puts it, €œmere data€.
