2. Zelda II: The Adventure Of Link - I Am Error

Like some Westworld Host gaining sentience and staring at its own programming language, one of gaming's biggest mistranslations comes from Zelda II.

Eventually cleared up (to some degree) by the folks over at LegendsOfLocalization, it turns out this character's name actually was "Error", but rumours persist that he was supposed to be called 'Errol'. See, later in the game you'll come across another character named 'Bagu', the romanisation of the Japanese word for 'bug' (or error), who'll give you a message to take back to "River Man."

It's clear these two were supposed to be named after alternating terms for 'bugs' or 'glitches', but as for the real intent behind Error, Errol or whatever they're going by, it remains one of the most infamous 'mistranslations' in the history of gaming.
