10 Moments That Made You Quit Gaming For Good

2. Can I See Your Licence? (Gran Turismo)

I wouldn't know it until later in life, but the original Gran Turismo educated me a lot about driving in reality.

It taught the importance of braking time, how to steer into a corner and that fast cars aren't always the best cars. And it also taught me getting your licence is the most difficult, stamina-draining segment of your driving career.

The truth is even in 1997, when it was first released, Gran Turismo's handling was ahead of its time and made it the archetypal racing game. But completing every license test with gold honours, something to which every player aspired, was nigh impossible for the average mortal.

Every time trial, brake test and "Basics of Cornering," were all part of a gauntlet you must pass to progress, but one most will never perfect.

Also, bear in mind these were undertaken in classics like the Mazda Demios, Nissan Silvia and the Honda del Sol.

You can almost smell those gold medals.

If you want an old-school racing game to pick up 'n' play while not leaving any stones unturned, steer clear of Gran Turismo. Seriously, if you're the kind to not give up until you're at 100 per cent, say your farewells to any loves ones.
