10 More Infuriating Video Game Levels You Forgot You Hated
1. Xen - Half-Life
Half-Life is undeniably one of the most influential video games of all time, but that doesn't mean it's entirely perfect - far from it, in fact.
Ask just about anyone what their least favourite level in the game is and they'll tell you Xen, the dimensional border-world which players take a fleeting trip to late in the story.
Xen ditches the well-honed combat up to this point for a bout of awkward, clunky platforming across this admittedly intriguing alien world, which counter to the relative linearity of Black Mesa is more expansive and, honestly, confusing.
Though third-party remake Black Mesa actually massively improved upon the original game's platforming and navigation around Xen, the developers also misguidedly decided to extend Xen into a level several times longer than the original, destroying the late-game pacing in the process.
It's still totally preferable to the miserable slog that is O.G. Xen, at least.
