10 Most Addictive Video Games Of 2017

9. Middle-Earth: Shadow Of War

Middle Earth Shadow Of War
Monolith

It's a rare move when a game with so much momentum as the first Shadow of Mordor isn't capitalised on with an immediate sequel, but Monolith suitably took three years to consider just how to follow up on many peoples' 2014 Game of the Year.

The answer? More.

More dynamic encounters with random orcs of all shapes and sizes when out in the open world. More skills and abilities to unlock and perfect. More ways to let the A.I. scripts overlap, allowing random trolls, dragons and NPCs to join the fight or aid in clearing outposts - sometimes without realising it.

Essentially pegging you as a God with access to mind-controlling entire legions of Sauron's legion at once, Shadow of War lets you build armies, take over fortresses, fortify your own and keep going, making many enemies along the way.

It's one giant maelstrom of constantly-unlocking equipment, soldiers, abilities, callbacks to prior battles and the anticipation to see what's next. If Shadow of War takes hold, it's like nothing else.
