10 Most Bizarre Video Game Mechanics (That Actually Worked)

6. Realistic Gun Mechanics - Receiver & Receiver 2

Receiver is completely different from any other shooter as the act of shooting doesn’t come down to clicking your mouse or squeezing a trigger on a controller. Instead, the process is about as complicated as it is in real life. There are keys assigned to everything including retracting the slide of your pistol, manipulating the slide lock lever, ejecting the magazine, playing with the safety, inserting rounds into the magazine and inserting the magazine into the gun, as well as controlling the hammer.

If this sounds like the opposite of fun you’d be surprisingly mistaken as the process of mastering this system is pretty satisfying.

If you’re keen to see guns actually work like guns for once in video games, Receiver really caters to that niche. Guns jam in accurate ways, you can accidentally shoot yourself, and being across the unique ways each gun works is a puzzle in and of itself. It offers up a really cool playground for those that enjoy the feedback of gunplay and are happy for things to get granular. It should be mentioned that Receiver 2 has some pretty heavy themes that might not be for everybody, but its extremely unique mechanics are admirable either way.
