10 Most Brilliantly OTT Sports Video Games Of All Time
2. NFL Blitz 2000
Back when Midway could actually use NFL teams in their games, NFL Blitz was on fire. At the time, no football game had been released like this: everything was squeaky clean and followed all the rules. Blitz was the game that let you hit the opponent after the whistle and ignore almost every single penalty in a normal game of football. The tackles were also brutal allowing diversity that meant you could at times throw your opponent ten yards by the arm and at others deliver a German suplex. Variety is the spice of life after all. What makes NFL Blitz 2000 the best in the series though was that it was a port of NFL Blitz '99 to home consoles with a few tweaks like better frame rate, which was a huge plus. '99 saw the addition of the "on fire" mechanic that became so popular and also saw the addition of four player support. It really took a good game and made it even better. The arcade feel was still there, and it was simple to get lost in a tournament with your friends to see who was best.
