4. New Londo
One of those Lord Souls you've so desperately been seeking is apparently housed somewhere within the walls of New Londo, but in case you hadn't already noticed, the whole place appears to have been entombed below several feet of water.
As it turns out, the city was hastily flooded hundreds, if not thousands of years ago in order to halt the spreading Abyss, although its populace clearly didn't get the memo - they now wonder its damp, waterlogged remnants as ethereal and vengeful spirits.
At this stage in the game, besting a group of angry ghosts sounds like child's play, but that confidence is destined to be short-lived, as you're not even able to hurt the wraiths without using a specific (non-permanent) consumable item that makes them susceptible to cold, hard steel. You're working against the clock as you attempt to drain the city of water, then, although achieving that only reveals a new breed of nightmare fresh off the production line: Darkwraiths.
Persevere and you'll eventually clear a path to the boss fog. Fall in battle, however, and you'll have to make the run back from Firelink Shrine. Be sure to oil that elevator, it's going to be in frequent use.
