10 Most Difficult Gaming Moments Of 2015

8. Season 2 - Galak-Z

It seems to be an unwritten rule that any game set in a distant-futuristic industrial setting is going to be a serious test of your mettle; exhibits include Metroid, last year's Axiom Verge, and spacecraft-based shooters like R-Type and Sinistar. Galak-Z continues this noble tradition, as you blast your way through waves of raiders, aliens and other interstellar enemies while managing your ever-dwindling supplies of health and ammunition. You'd think that the first 'Season' of Galak-Z (consisting of five missions) would give you a taste of what's to come in the game, but it does absolutely nothing to prepare you for the laser-laden hellhole that is Season 2, where the astronomic difficulty spike will leave you wondering whether you slipped through a warp zone and skipped to a later point in the game. A huge part of the challenge stems from the fact that to complete a season you need to get through it without dying a single time. This may seem like a cheap way to evoke challenge, though it successfully ups the ante as you get closer and closer to the finish line. You'll need to resist the urge to fight every enemy you come across though, and choose your battles wisely, because one misjudged fight can cause you to get quickly overwhelmed as you reel in multiple enemies unexpectedly and take damage that you'll really feel the effects of if (a big if) you reach the season's boss.
